Mick Jenkins just dropped his latest EP, The Circus. The tracklist includes the previously released single, Carefree. This is his first release since 2018’s Pieces of a Man. EARTHGANG is the sole feature on the EP, while Hit-Boy, Beat Butcha, Bizness Boi, Black Milk, Chirashe, Coop the Truth, and DJ Fu took over the production side. As a direct prelude to my forthcoming album, The Circus EP is a body of work about just that, he said in a statement to The FADER

So, John Train introduces the remarkable story of Warren Buffett in his classic text, 'The Midas Touch'. From the back cover of the book: This is the book that tells readers how to invest like the man known as 'the Wizard of Omaha' (Forbes) and the investor with 'the Midas Touch'. First published in 1987, 'The Midas Touch' was one of the first books to recognise Warren Buffett's spectacular record, and to attempt to explain how he achieved his success. Warren Buffett is the most successful investor alive - the only member of the Forbes 400 to have earned his fortune entirely through investing.

Mary's escapades will threaten her father's work among the Feather River tribes, compromise her faith and family, and ultimately imperil not only her life, but the lives of her friends. But when Mary finally comes face to face with her shortcomings, evil plans beyond her control are already in motion. Trapped and alone, Mary must confront the darkness within herself. Only then will she be ready for the greatest test of her life, with the lives of others hanging in the balance. Above the Midas Touch is the second book in the Discovery historical fiction series, which follows the lives and adventures of young people over several generations. Like Mary, they struggle to make their way in a growing and changing 19th century America and to triumph amid the century-long spiritual conflicts that have shaped our nation, past and present.
Reviews:
  • JUST DO IT
Above the Midas Touch, a historical novel by the gifted writing team of John Jenkins and Mark Weaver, transports the reader back in time to the gold mining town of Midas, California, at the height of the infamous Gold Rush in the year 1849. Although the main characters consist of three teenagers, the story is engaging for readers of all ages, from as young as 3rd grade up.

Despite her father's warnings, Mary Muhlenberg, and her friends, Tom and Billy, contract Gold Fever after inadvertently discovering gold - and possibly the entrance to the legendary "Lake of Gold". Unfortunately, their claim is near land considered sacred by the local Indian tribe. Mary's missionary parents to the tribes of the Sierras want to prevent causing an offense, as well as, protect Mary and her friends from the greed and other ill side effects which accompany Gold Fever. Her father reminds her, "Where your treasure is there will your heart be also." Mary is torn, but wishing to change the harsh life she and her family had lived so far, she leaves her home to pursue her dream.

However, as Mary and her friends are enticed to sign away their claim to the founder of the town for shares in the association of the Lake of Gold, they see their dream slowly turn into a nightmare. Adventures and mystery abound in this exciting tale of youngsters coming of age and learning valuable lessons that will last them a lifetime. Hard to put down! I highly recommend this book to readers of all ages. As the great-great-granddaughter of a "49-er" I especially enjoyed sharing the lively glimpse into this unique period of American history. The resources listed at the end of the book are a great addition for people who are spurred on to find out more about the Gold Rush.

I just finished reading Above the Midas Touch and have to admit, I was taken by surprise by the fact that once I started, I couldn't put it down. I was intrigued by the story, the setting, and most of all, the depth of the time period. The story is about a young girl finding her way in California during the gold rush days. The characters surrounding her are real and force her to discover on her own what her family and others had tried to explain. Her two adventurous friends bring to life the meaning of trusted friendships as they find their way into adventure. The tale describes a time and place in a way that you can almost feel and hear the town, see the light at the top of the hill, and share in not only the characters that bring the book alive but the fever of discovering gold. This is a great family story and a must read for all ages.
