This particular book the series is the best IMHO. I am a bit afraid to read earlier works by Don Bassingthwaite, as they may not hold up the standard I have after these books

This particular book the series is the best IMHO. I felt true wrath with the Dragonmarked Houses, and with the goblin king. It is rare that I burst out vocally when reading, but in this one I actually burst out and had to describe a scene to one of my daughters. I am a bit afraid to read earlier works by Don Bassingthwaite, as they may not hold up the standard I have after these books. Tyranny of Ghosts is a great closure to the series and well worth the read. 2 people found this helpful.

Rage at himself for thinking he could try to save Haruuc’s dream of Darguun as a homeland for the dar, the three related races of hobgoblins, goblins, and bugbears. The goblin gave a nod of approval. Senen Dhakaan had told them to seek refuge in Volaar Draal, stronghold of the Kech Volaar-southwest of Rhukaan Draal. But Tariic, whatever else he might be, was no fool. Traveling south with a duur’kala of the Kech Volaar among them would have given away their destination.

I am truly sad that I finished this series. I wanted much more but am happy to have a complete series and not just some run on work. This particular book the series is the best IMHO. I felt true wrath with the Dragonmarked Houses, and with the goblin king. It is rare that I burst out vocally when reading, but in this one I actually burst out and had to describe a scene to one of my daughters. The helplessness described got my blood boiling and I was out of breath from one of the parallel stories running. I could not put the novel down. I was pulling for Ashi and disgusted by what happened to Senen. When you have true feelings for the characters in the story, the author has done his job.

Thumbs up! I am off to read George RR Martin's series now, and plan to work on the Dragon Below trilogy after that. I am a bit afraid to read earlier works by Don Bassingthwaite, as they may not hold up the standard I have after these books. Tyranny of Ghosts is a great closure to the series and well worth the read.

Must buy. This is one of the greatest series of books I've read in a long time.

A great book, many times I was doubting with the characters whom they could trust. It had me aching more and more with each page how they would solve all these seemingly impossible problems of theirs. A great ending I loved it!
