This book is book band yellow, level 3, of The Oxford Reading Tree's special series designed to interest boys in reading, Project X. Although each child reaches the ability to read independently at different ages, I would give this a very rough estimate of age 5 -6. Each page has only one sentence, with bold clear print, and easy to read words. The words are all words that could be sounded out phonetically with the exception of gingerbread, which is one of the longest words as well.

Good questions at the end of the book. My son loves animals. So he was really engaged with the book, which is really important when you are trying to encourage and interest in reading. When he took it to school, another child said it was a schoold book.
