Absolutely LOVE the substance of this text by Russell. However, CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform produces probably the worst quality publications I have ever seen. Just terrible. Just note that this version of the book is just the public domain version printed with NO FORMATTING whatsoever. 5 stars for Russell's work. 0 stars for the publisher.

The weird thing is that CreateSpace publishes such great, overlooked material, but the quality is unbelievably sub par. Get your ish together CreateSpace. I dont recommend purchasing anything from this publisher unless you absolutely have to.

Russell always one of the best combining logic, reason, and moral persuasion without religion.

Russel writes a strong analysis of various forms of socialism and anarchism and from that puts forth his view of an ideal society. His insights into the strengths and weaknesses of these socioeconomic systems are informative and well though out- he leaves little untouched in his analysis.

Russell is is an accomplished writer. A bit out of date now but still an objective evaluation of Socialism and Communism.

"Proposed Roads to Freedom: Socialism, Anarchism, and Syndicalism" has truly informed me on Syndicalism, Socialism, and the histories of those along with the history of Anarchism (I already know a lot about Anarchism, so it didn't teach me anything I didn't already know). It has shown me the faults and benefits of the three systems, and I do have to say, Syndicalism seems to be the best system in terms of the workplace. It has taught me about the economic systems of a Socialist state, a Syndicalist state, and has allowed me to see another's view on the inner workings of the Anarchist's economic system. It is a wonderful book, by which I would recommend to anyone. Also, it teaches people the truth about the three, especially Anarchism, which seems to be, in my opinion, the best system. It teaches people that Anarchism usually doesn't involve chaos, and has a rich history. I wish this book was more popular, so that people could know about these controversial ideologies, which have often been demonized by Statists and Capitalists. I hope the people out there will enjoy reading this book as much as I did.

Exquisite read, should be mandatory reading in all schools. Still extremely relevant.

Others have commented on the contents. This particular production of the book by Polit Press is cheap. No table of contents, no index, and the footnotes show up in random positions on the page. Check out another version.
Russell discusses the virtues and draw backs of state Socialism and Anarchism as alternatives to Capitalism. Though he builds the case that they may not be the ideal options he goes on to discuss Guild Socialism that takes on a very protectionist stance by putting the unions and trades in charge to protect their members. Interesting idea but still did not build a compelling reason why is wouldn't lead to a chase to the bottom as people life of the labor of others and no one is motivated t give extra effort other then through altruism.
