Parker Palmer’s graceful little book LET YOUR LIFE SPEAK is the best work I’ve ever read on discernment and vocation.

Parker Palmer’s graceful little book LET YOUR LIFE SPEAK is the best work I’ve ever read on discernment and vocation. Unlike many more mechanical treatments of the topic, Palmer’s notion of vocational discovery leads him to value the path rather than merely the destination. One finds, in this second and longest of Palmer’s chapters, refreshingly important roles to be played by fear, failure, and ordinariness.

Parker J. Palmer, Let Your Life Speak: Listening for the Voice of Vocation. Why does a literary scholar study the world of "fiction"? To show us that the facts can never be understood except in communion with the imagination. tags: being, life, life-plan, vocation. Parker J. Palmer, The Courage to Teach: Exploring the Inner Landscape of a Teacher's Life. Wholeness does not mean perfection; it means embracing brokenness as an integral part of life ― Parker J. Palmer, A Hidden Wholeness: The Journey Toward an Undivided Life. The soul speaks its truth only under quiet, inviting, and trustworthy conditions.

Let Your Life Speak is a fantastic book to start your journey toward life purpose. Quick Housekeeping: All quotes are from the author unless otherwise stated. I wish I would have discovered it four years ago when I started my own journey. The way that I described my existential crisis is eerily similar to Parker’s own story-all the way down to the fact that we were both in our early thirties and stared at the ceiling for hours every night: I was in my early thirties when I began, literally, to wake up to questions about my vocation. By all appearances, things were going well, but the soul does not put much stock in appearances.

With wisdom, compassion, and gentle humor, Parker J. Palmer invites us to listen to the inner teacher and follow its leadings toward a sense of meaning and purpose. To read this book, upload an EPUB or FB2 file to Bookmate.

Crisp, succinct, and inspiring. However, for anyone who has never negotiated the path of major depression and suicidal ideation.... this might be a scary book. Been there, got back to the light..... and now I get it..... (some of it.... a little...... anyway, enough to cause me to think that I had a valuable experience of my own..... now to digest....)

An excellent book supporting being an authentic person but still following one's inherent vocation.

Beautifully written and it spoke to the core of my human experience. Validating!!
I loved this book so much. It is now my new favorite book. I learned so much about myself from this book and I recommend it to anybody. I don't think the title is that great, it has a lot more to do with personal growth than just vocation. Anyone interested in challenging him or herself to grow as a person, especially as a Christian, ought to read this book.
