Biostatistics, Student Solutions Manual: A Foundation for Analysis in the Health Sciences. This book for the most part covers the same things a "regular" statistics textbook does at the introductory level with only a few public health-specific formulas or tests. It is wordy when it doesn't need to be (and in fact, I think sometimes that makes things more confusing) and does a very poor job of helping you through the steps of some of the more complicated formulas.
Only reasonable proficiency in algebra is required for an understanding of the concepts and methods underlying the calculations.
