On a recent trip to Catalina Island, we saw this book in the gift stores but only could find it in paperback. I understood that my find on Amazon was a hardback copy. I was so excited to see it in the mail but was disappointed when I opened the package to find it too was a paperback. I understand it could well have been an oversight on my part. But I was specifically looking for the hardback copy. Another disappointment is that it is worn more than the description, especially at the binding. I will keep the book because it is an excellent book on the rich history of Santa Catalina Island.

We love Catalina and try to visit at least once a year. This book is perfect for anyone who really cares about the island, or just for the casual visitor who would be interested in knowing more about it. Even though we've spent so much time there and feel like we've seen most of the island, we still learned things we didn't know when reading this book. It is one of several publications about Catalina that we'll enjoy looking at, and referring to, many times in the future. We highly recommend it!

I would strongly recommend this book to anyone who needs information on or is just curious about Santa Catalina Island.

This book is available in the bookstore in Avalon on Catalina Island. Catalina is one of my favorite places in the world, and this book is a detailed history of the island's rich history, from its early days as home to Native Americans to today, where most of the island is preserved and unspoiled for future generations. In addition to some colorful stories about the people who played an important role in the island's history, the book includes many rare historic photos and drawings that help tell the island's story. Definitely a worthwhile book for anyone interested in Santa Catalina.
