The complex interplay between these two traditions, and between both of them and other poetries in English and Scottish Gaelic, has produced a body of work that is both rich in variety and difficult to categorise. The earliest surviving poems in Irish date back to the 6th century, while the first known poems in English from Ireland date to the 14th century.
Great Book of Ireland, The The Great Book of Ireland is a manuscript book containing hundreds of Irish poems, music compositions, and drawings. Each is handwritten by the author or composer or hand-drawn by the artist. The book was compiled between 1989 and 1991. University College Cork, Ireland (A Britannica Publishing Partner). As the 20th century drew near in Ireland, a new nationalist cultural revival stirred. It would come to be known as the Irish literary renaissance and would change modern Irish history, but first it had to make sense of the Irish past.

in British & Irish Literary Criticism (Books). I did not know much about British and Irish poetry before getting this book. The Anthology of Twentieth-Century British and Irish Poetry was a required text for a poetry class I had, and I came to appreciate so much more poetry and so many more authors because of this great compilation.
Yeats wanted to separate Irish poetry from the blatant propaganda and facile sentiments to which Thomas Davis and his companions in the Young Ireland movement had subjected it. Thomas Moore’s drawing room lyrics were an even more insidious tempest, their pathos being nearly irresistible. One of the earliest 19th Century political poets or pamphleteers3 was Thomas Moore, who Seamus Deane refers to as both a whig pamphleteer and a minor poet but a major phenomenon
