This short but powerful novella chronicles the early life of Aaryn, who, in mourning after the recent death of his wife, Chrystine, reflects upon the girl whose name and healing nature made him fall in love with that wife at their first meeting—the other Krystine, his first love, a lovely, innocent, child-like Veela. In remembering her, he recounts his early ventures—how he became the very first vampire; how he protected Krystine from the lusts of the Princes of Night and struggled to protect her from himself; how he was forcibly drug into a mission in search for the One who could overthrow the evil of the Enchantress who created him—and how all these tales and misadventures weave together to tell the story of a love so beautiful and yet sorrowful, brimming with both hope and hopelessness. A tale of mystery, adventure, and passion, Aaryn’s story echoes the unbreakable love and eternal bond between two immortals. Truly, this is the saddest vampire tale ever told.

The Gist of the Book:
In this novella you learn about the early days of Aaryn the vampire prince. He explains how he became the first vampire by the hands of the evil Enchantress who planned to start an army of vampires. To her disappointment Aaryn chose to flee and live his life with goodness and protect those against the Enchantress. Although Aaryn has good intentions he could not forget his strong cravings for blood and sexual energy which at times took control over him. At the funeral of his beloved wife Chrystine Aaryn recollects his first love Krystine and how her love and innocence made it possible for him to love another. This sad but honest tale of horror, love, betrayal and loss leaves you with a better understanding of Aaryn: A Man, A Vampire Prince, A Beloved Husband.

My Thoughts:
Tears of a Vampire Prince is definitely the saddest Vampire tale ever told. This novella has a much darker theme then Golden Healer, Dark Enchantress and for me was a more powerful story. In this Novella you learn a lot about who Aaryn truly is and what horrific things he has been through. Actually I felt a lot of mixed emotions *sadness, happiness, anger, despair* when reading about how Aaryn was first changed into a vampire, how he met his first love Krystine, then fell in love with his wife Chrystine while dealing with great loss and remembering all that has happened throughout his life. I do recommend that you first read the Golden Healer, Dark Enchantress to kind of prepare you for this novella and I won't lie I was a little disappointed with what happens to certain characters. In all this was a well written novella about a Vampire Prince trying to keep his humanity and through memories creates a passionate story of love and loss.

I found myself enjoying Aaryn's story more than Golden Healer because I was able to understand why Aaryn acted the way he did. It was somewhat sad when Aaryn lost his first Krystine.I thought the characters that played a role in Aaryn's life before the events of Golden Healer were well thought out and each played an important role in the story.

This is a good start (prequel) to an interesting vampire fantasy series. For me, it is also an introduction of relations between vampires and the fae.

Background history, motives and foretellings are provided which provide curiosity for what is to come.
