Series: Physics for Scientists and Engineers. Hardcover: 1356 pages. With most science texts, one might expect an error here or there, generally one or two errors per book, but in this book I find one or two (sometimes more) errors per chapter.

Series: Physics for Scientists and Engineers. Of course, I'm talking about solutions; I haven't discovered any errors in the text itself. My other qualm is that the end-of-chapter equations list excludes some important equations, requiring unnecessary digging back through the chapter.

For nearly 30 years, Paul Tipler's Physics for Scientists and Engineers has set the standard in the introductory calculus-based physics course for clarity . The result is a teaching tool that retains its precision and rigor, but offers struggling students the support they need to solve problems strategically and to gain real understanding of physical concepts.

Paul A. KEY MESSAGE: As the most widely adopted new physics text in more than 50 years, Knight’s Physics for Scientists and Engineers was published to widespread critical acclaim from professors and students.

The volume is organized into 18 chapters encompassing thermodynamics, electricity, optics, sound, solid mechanics . This book presents a scientific approach to writing that mirrors the sensibilities of scientists and engineers.

Reviews:
  • FailCrew
They skip too many steps. The way they explain things are very unintuitive and lacks clarity. It is like the authors assume you already know how to do this stuff and are just refreshing your memory. I have no idea why my physics professor would choose this horrible book for students learning this stuff for the first time.
  • Andromakus
Got this for college physics, there is so much unnecessary crap and not much focus on the actual concepts, hated reading it and learned more from websites
  • Xwnaydan
The book is very helpful and has sections in each chapter that lists and reviews the relevant formulas for that chapter. The book was a little more worn down than I expected; but, nonetheless, it was a great price for what I needed! Also, I did not know this when I rented it but this book contains VOLUME 1 AND 2 in it (i rented volume 2 before receiving this book and realizing it had both already in it).

Looks like it was done via OCR and there was no editing. It's not usable in its current Kindle format.
  • Kefym
Book of a good quality. Not to hard to read, if you know physics.
  • Dalarin
The book is okay. It doesn't break down the topics enough, and the end of the chapter problems really require you to make a leap in intuition to be able to solve the harder problems.
  • Togor
It is a very big text book, but the best thing is it comes with a disc that has the book on it. It does have some extra examples but like the study guide, really doesn't help much.

Another good thing is that the text is usable over the physics requisite!
I purchased this textbook for my college level Calculus based Physics course. I was initially excited and looking forward to diving into this textbook. When I reviewed a few pages, I felt like I was so lost. It is a difficult read that's for sure. I recommend a study guide from Barron's to assist with this textbook!
