ABSTRACT: Corrosion of metal components constitutes a major challenge in many engineering systems, with appropriate design, proper material selection, and heat treatment as commonly used control strategies. In this study, the corrosion behaviour of heat-treated (annealed, normalised, hardened, and tempered) NST 37-2 steel in three concentrations (., . and . M) of hydrochloric acid solution was investigated using weight loss and electrode-potential methods. Results showed that corrosion rate increased with increase in acid concentration.
Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning Analysis and Design. The ability to prevent failures by managing corrosion is one of the main global challengesof the twenty-first century. However, most practicing engineers and technologists have only a basic understanding of how they can actively participate in this urgent economic and environmental issue.
Design for Corrosion Prevention. Pludek, in Encyclopedia of Materials: Science and Technology, 2001. Its function is to extend the continuity and effectiveness of the corrosion control built into the design itself. Corrosion protection cannot alone be responsible for the safety and survival of structures and equipment. Protection and intrinsic corrosion control are complementary; when they are reconciled and balanced, their interaction cuts down maintenance and gives a better safety margin.

Engineering design must include corrosion control equipment, such as cathodic protection systems and coatings. Maintenance must be carried out so that corrosion is moni- tored and significant defects are repaired, so that risk is managed during the operational lifetime. quantitative, as Michael Faraday showed in the early nineteenth century.
