Barbara Barbieri McGrath (Author). The concept of this book is great. We started with the M&M counting book which was too easy, but this one (addition book) gets more advanced pretty quickly.

Pour out the candies. Get ready. Get set. This counting book is the tastiest yet! This yummy little counting book teaches the numbers 1 through 12, six colors of the "M&M's" Chocolate Candies, including the new blue, and three primary shapes: the circle, square, and triangle. Beginning scholars also learn the sets of twelve. What's more, children are introduced to simple math! Hungry learners are rewarded in the last section of the book, where they learn simple subtraction by eating the learning tools, twelve "M&M's" Chocolate Candies! The review page at the end ties it all together and reinforces newly learned concepts and skills.

My six year old daughter has been struggling with subtraction
facts. She can do any word problem, but the facts just made no
sense to her. I have used concrete objects as well as several
"math books" to help her make sense of it all, but with no
results. Then I thought of buying this book. That's all that it took! My child is no longer frustrated and confused about the
meaning of subtraction. Best of all, she likes math now, and yes,
eating the m&m's was a surprise bonus. As a fifth grade teacher
and mom of a first grader, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book to any
teacher or parent who simply wants to do fun activities with math. It's especially helpful to children who can't quite grasp
the concept of simple subtraction. I think the author should have
included some "counting back" facts after she introduced the first fact (12-1). It would've been so easy and sensible to go
ahead with (12-2), (12-3),etc. My daughter and I did a few count
back facts at this point in the book, and it made sense to her.
This is the reason for my rating of 4 stars.
  • It's so easy
Better than I had hoped. Was looking to replace my kids' trade paperback version to give to my grand-kids. Ordered this and was delighted when a hard-cover version arrived.

I bought the book with the intent that it was in good condishion with no writing on the pages, yet on almost every page (mostly on the last few pages) are huge child drawn hand prints on them. This book was something I bought as an educator to read to my students. It is not something that I feel that I can show to my students and look creditable as an educator.

Great kids books to teach math!

The book was purchased as a gift for our grandson. It subsequently arrived in the condition and within the time promised. The boy was happy with his new book that he still reads it. It's a good tool for maintaining the interest of toddlers while teaching them to count. Everything occurred as stated at the time of purchase, so we were pleasantly unsurprised.

Probably good for ages 6 through 10. Any younger seemed much too difficult.

what a fun book to use to help grandkids learn to count. We all had fun, learning and munching.
Fun book.
