Dr. Denise Herzing began her research with a pod of spotted dolphins in the 1980s. Now, almost three decades later, she has forged strong ties with many of these individuals, has witnessed and recorded them feeding, playing, fighting, mating, giving birth and communicating. Dolphin Diaries is an account of Herzing's research and her surprising findings on wild dolphin behavior, interaction, and communication. Readers will be drawn into the highs and lows―the births and deaths, the discovery of unique and personalized behaviors, the threats dolphins face from environmental changes, and the many funny and wonderful encounters Denise painstakingly documented over many years. This is the perfect book for anyone who loves these incredibly versatile and intelligent creatures and wants to find out more than the dolphin show at the zoo can offer. Herzing is a true pioneer in her field and deserves a place in the pantheon of naturalists and scientists next to Dian Fossey and Jane Goodall.

Denise has studied dolphins the way Jane Goodall studied chimpanzees. She discovered their social and family structures. Interacting with games. I recently went to the Bahamas and met some of these dolphins. I'm glad Denise described how they play "Keep Away" with scarves and sea weed. I understood their behaviors after reading her book. My interaction with them was more meaningful because of her. Thank you Denise for your invaluable work!

If you really love dolphins, you will love this book. Since it is essentially a dissertation on a research project, it can be a bit clinical but the information is fascinating. She has laid an excellent foundation for future communication with dolphins. It gave me hope that the two most intelligent species on earth may well share a joint future.

The author has put her heart and soul into studying dolphins. That is the main reason to read this well-written book.

Amazing book. Denise is dedicated to studying dolphins in their own environment and has learned how they really live. As an advocate for dolphins for many years I have read many books on the subject, this is one of the best.

My daughter-in-law loved the book; it was a birthday gift to her!! She said it was fantastic...she is a dolphin lover.
Quite interesting. Interesting to read about the lives of the most intelligent water mammalian. They are far more clever than we credit them.
