A bible of valuable information written by one of Africa's first serious scholars of herpetology. Vivian FM Fitzsimmon's book may contain information which is now outdated but his work is thorough and encompasses all the species and data available at the time of publication. Included in the species accounts are distribution maps, biology and breeding, maximum recorded sizes and taxonomical origins of Genus and species. As a work it is as yet unsurpassed and remains the only comprehensively detailed volume on snakes of the Southern African sub-region.
