The River in Winter book. Mor. rivia About The River in Winter.

by. Small, David, 1937-. Books for People with Print Disabilities. Internet Archive Books.

I was enchanted with this book when I first encountered it in 1992, and am still moved by this hard-to-find gem. This is a work of tight, concise writing and biting wit. The characters are unforgettable, particularly the grandfather. The bad guys of this novel were, I'm sorry to say, more stock characters than anything else - esp. the bad cop with the no-see-um sunglasses. But in a way that generic quality only leant a certain originality to the rest of the cast. Published by Thriftbooks

US involvement in Korea established a permanent burden for the US military and Johnson was right: Vietnam would . David Halberstam tells the complete story.

US involvement in Korea established a permanent burden for the US military and Johnson was right: Vietnam would either become another Korea, with permanent US military involvement, or we could limit US involvement to advice and support. Growing up during the 60s I had always thought of Korea as a victory, or at worst a draw. From Chang’s loss of the Chinese Civil War, and how Truman was successfully blamed for that outcome, to how the United States then became the guarantor of the Republic of China’s security on Taiwan.

Every day my friends and I went to the river We ran up to him and saw a small fox baby under a big tree. Where did David live last summer? It there a big forest and a river in the village where the boy lived? Where did David and his friends go every day?

Every day my friends and I went to the river. We swam and played with a ball on the green grass. One warm summer day in July we got up at 6 o’clock in the morning and went to the forest. There were many mushrooms and berries in the forest. We picked flowers, gathered berries and mushrooms. The berries were tasty. We ran up to him and saw a small fox baby under a big tree. It was very nice and funny. Where did David live last summer? It there a big forest and a river in the village where the boy lived? Where did David and his friends go every day? Where did they go one day in July? What did the children do in the forest?

Never caught my interest.

A moving book, one that could be favorably compared to the fiction of A. N. Wilson or even V.S. Pritchett. I loved it, and can't wait to read more.
