Montgomery Place is a memorial to Janet’s late husband, General. Richard Montgomery, the Revolutionary War hero who was killed at the Battle of Quebec. The mansion was redesigned by Downing’s architectural collaborator, . Davis, who designed an outdoor room to integrate the classically designed mansion with nature. Downing collaborated on the estate’s landscape development with Janet’s sister-in-law, Louise Livingston; Louise’s daughter Cora; and Cora’s husband, Thomas Barton. Downing designed an arboretum on the mansion’s lawn, which remains largely intact.

Places to visit in Annandale on Hudson. Montgomery Place, a serene reflection of nearly 200 years of continuous family stewardship, is best known as a landscape influenced by the great Andrew Jackson Downing and an architectural landmark designed by Alexander Jackson Davis more. Стр. xxviii - May of the year 1846 that I first saw Downing. A party was made up under the locusts to cross the river and pass the day at "Highland Gardens," as his place was named. The river at Newburgh is about a mile wide, and is crossed by a quiet country ferry, whence the view downward toward the West Point Highlands, Butter Hill, SugarLoaf, Cro' Nest, and Skunnymunk, is as beautiful a river view as can be seen upon a summer day.

Montgomery Place has incorporated numerous styles of architecture over the years. The original, federal-style, 1805 mansion was built by Janet Livingston Montgomery. In 1841, Louise and Cora, the next Livingston generation, discussed the transformation of the mansion with the architect Alexander Jackson Davis, marking the start of a program of design and construction that would span 30 years. The mansion is considered Davis’s finest neoclassical country house, significant for both its design excellence and its rarity.

Great place now. very good place . I was a little scared at first when my company booked me at this hotel, but was surprised to find this one star hotel rates more like a two star. excellent service & great prices. Got a room at this place on trip to Florida, near interstate, just to sleep, and resume trip, as weather was bad: snow. The room rate is affordable and the service from the staff is prompt and courtious.
