This book is supposed to be a modern twist on a favorite fairy tale. I can tell you it's definitely a twist. I could not make myself like the main character Lisa. She was self centered and a pain in the rear. Her mother was just as bad.

It was just hard to wrap my head around the story. There were some fascinating twists that will definitely keep you guessing and going "What!" when everything comes into the open. In that regard you will not be let down at all.

Sad to say, this book counts among the worst I have ever forced myself to finish with. It is a muddle of mentally ill protagonists who use means to achieve their goals - love - that are simply appalling. The worst was not the horrid mother drowning in her selfpity or the husband using horrid means to win his wife's affection but the protagonist Lisa who is a most annoying, stubborn selfpitying load, unable to accept the fact that only she herself is responsible for her own misery and unwilling to learn her lessons but wants to criticise all others...the very worst was when she becomes pregnant and starts calling her unborn - and then born! - child 'the thing'...
The book is not funny at all, quite shocking in the language the (frustrated?) author uses and the story appalling. I wonder how someone might want to call it a comedy. But hats off of Judith Summers: I will have my doings to forget about it again.
