Very well written History book of the Incas. Alfred Métraux (Lausanne, 5 November 1902 – 12 April 1963, Paris) was a Swiss and Argentine anthropologist, ethnologist and human rights leader. Books by Alfred Métraux.

Very well written History book of the Incas. I knew a little of their culture and history, but this book gave a bigger picture of who they really were, and why they disappeared from history. I would recommend this book. Books by Alfred Métraux

His books include Voodoo, The History of the Incas and Easter Island. Alfred Métraux took his own life by an overdose of barbiturates  . He married Fernande Schulmann who accompanied him to Chile, Peru, and Brazil and who planned to work with him in Paraguay. He was survived also by his brother, Guy Metraux (1919-2000) of Paris, his sister, Vera Conne (1920-2009) of Lausanne, and by two sons: Eric Metraux (1927–92) from his first marriage, and Daniel Alfred Metraux (born 1948), the son of Rhoda Metraux.

Metraux summarizes the attempts at rebellion in the intervening centuries

The Incas were an illiterate group who conquered a hostile terrain, built roads, irrigation systems and monumental religious centers, achieving skills in craftsmanship in silver and gold rivaled only by the Maya in the New World. Metraux summarizes the attempts at rebellion in the intervening centuries. He ends on a hopeful note that where the descendants of the Inca groups have again united in communities, there is a new self-respect and attitude which may alter a lot which has been all but hopeless for 400 years.

Voodoo in Haiti is a masterwork of observation and description by one of the most distinguished anthropologists of the twentieth century. The breadth and subtlety of its approach is such that it remains an essential classic of Afro-American ethnology. -Robert Farris Thompson, professor of art history, Yale University, author of Flash of the Spirit "This is a work deserving of wide readership, and assured of it by its understanding and appeal. -Library Journal "This book gives what is surely.
