What others are saying. A History of Reading by Alberto Manguel: 9780143126713 PenguinRandomHouse. com: Books Graham Johnson.

Since its original publication in 1993, The Pause has become known as the authoritative guide to menopause--a previously overlooked topic of great importance to women. The significant amount of new research on menopause and perimenopause amassed in recent years has led bestselling author Lonnie Barbach to completely revise and update this groundbreaking classic. Important additions include eight entirely new sections on topics such as SERMs (selective estrogen receptor modulators), phytoestrogens, and the impact of menopause on the female immune system. This additional research is combined with new information about menopause and mood, weight gain during menopausal transition, breast cancer survivors taking estrogen, the positive effect of estrogen on dementia and Alzheimer's, and new alternatives to traditional HRT (hormone replacement therapy) for managing hot flashes, improving bone density, and assisting breast cancer survivors. All together, the latest edition of The Pause is a must-have resource for any woman facing the "next third" of her life.

I originally bought this book when it first came out many years ago. I repurchased this book recently for the updated info. Great book!

After all of the questions I had about this change in my life, this book answered them all, better than any doctor. Also really appreciate the chapter for men. My husband read it and has been so much more understanding. Love all of the tips that don't involve hormone replacement to help with the process of change. I would highly recommend this book over the other books out there.

I loved this book and some of the humorous stories in it. I highlighted sections heavily. Not sure that I will follow or believe all that was offered in this book, but it helped me to realize that some of what I have been feeling or dealing with is not unexpected or unusual.

This book is written so well. I had used it when I was going through the change of life. Couldn't find it in my local library community but borrowed it from someone else. I was happy to see it online and bought it for my buddy is having a rough time. She loves it.

I am 52 and have owned this book for years. Every time I experience a new symptom (heartburn, night sweats, PMS, fatigue, bad breath, etc.), I reach for it. Premenopause hasn't been particularly easy for me, but at least this book helps me understand that most of my symptoms are normal. This knowledge provides me with a great deal of comfort. I have recommended this book to all of my friends.
Great book but last published in 2000 so much data has changed.
