The main protagonist of this story is a kid named Rod Albright. The main antagonist is BKR A.K.A. Billy Becker. Rod is building a Paper Mache volcano when suddenly; a small rocket ship l full of aliens lands in his volcano. The setting is when he is about middle school age and he is mostly at his house but he goes to other places as well, such as BKR’s house and school. He eventually befriends the aliens and they have adventures like blowing up a house, lying to a teacher, and saving Rod’s younger brother and sister. The two most important themes of the story are honesty and making the right decision. I would rate this book at a four out of five. The book’s overall message is that cruelty is a crime and it is unacceptable. The author is very good at leaving cliffhanger at the end of chapters which is very good about him. I recommend this book to third to fifth graders who like action and adventure.

I grew up on these books and now I get to share them with my son. They are timeless and a great way to encourage reading for your kids. I love how well written these books are.

This is a cheerful and well-written alien/space adventure that features a well-rounded and appealing young hero. Coville avoids the hip ironic sub-text that mars many early readers, and tells a straight forward story of adventure and suspense. I can see why a young reader would like this and would feel a certain sense of satisfaction after finishing it. There is also less emphasis on zaniness, (like, say, in "The Time Warp Trio" books), so you get the feeling you are reading a beginner's novel, with a plot, characters, tension and resolution. So, you get fun and entertainment, but you also get to read a real book. Not bad for beginners.

I accidentally read the second book before this one... I was SO CONFUSED! But I was just as enamored with the characters and starting from the beginning only made it more amazing! I now own all four.

My son loves this book. (I have to say I do prefer the original cover.)

Great book for 4th-5th grade readers. A lot of action and humor. Bruce Coville is a fantastic author and you can't go wrong. Just so you know, this is the 1st book in a series of at least 3. Next is "I Left My Sneakers In Dimension X" and is also great.
Great book series.
