This is a Charles Fort style "here's what I hear" document rather than a scholarly attempt to sort out truth from fiction.
Cohen should know - he's been hanging around monster territory for a long time. And he spins a good yarn while instilling in his readers a healthy skepticism about newspaper reports, rumors, and so-called Indian legends (that have popped up to support, say, mammoths in Alaska and the Cardiff Giant)
