PWB Biography: Sharon Katz Cooper has written more than 25 books and articles for children. She has also written several books and articles for adults but those are less fun. Several of her books have been finalists for the Association of Educational Publishers (EdPress) awards. I felt that a few of their choices to go with letters were stretching it just a bit (like Z is for Zoe, a popular girl's name - well, that's true for America, too) and they could've worked a bit harder at finding truly French things for those.

I chose this book to read to a first grade class that is studying the French language. I think the ABC format moves them along in anticipation of the next letter. Good simple info. I supplememnt the reading with a powerpoint on the smartboard to give them a larger view of some of the topics.

But for the most part, it's well done and very cute.

The book was exactly as described. I gave it as a gift and the person who received it really enjoyed the book. I would order from this company again.

My daughter used this book for her report on France. The information is limited by the alphabet format. The illustrations are large and pretty. Unfortunately it mentions Lance Armstrong as the winner of the Tour de France for many years.

Good book but many entries are not appropriate for kids. A little too over their heads. But we focus on the easier ones for now.

My 4 year grand daughter loved the book. She enjoyed the beautiful colors and engaging descriptions for each alphabet letter.

Great book! Read it with my 7 yr old. We went to France this past summer, he enjoys this book.
Bonjour! (Hello!) Welcome to the country of France. This book will introduce your child to twenty six facts and more about France via the ABC's. On the first page, before the alphabet begins, the reader is shown on a map where France is and a 'Fast Fact'. Did you know that France is the most visited country in the world? Wow!

On each page of the alphabet there is an illustration, a paragraph providing details on the topic and a 'Fast Fact'. What I also love is the fact that the very difficult alphabet words have the pronunciation beside them. For example: yaourt (YOW-out)

At the end of the book there is a page labelled "France in Brief" with information on the capital, population, language, education, major holidays, climate, highest point, natural resources, money etc. On the facing page there are eight words to learn: good-bye, please, thank you, yes, no, one, two, three along with their pronunciations. There is also a glossary provided. An index is also provided on the last page.

Although definitely not a comprehensive book on the country, your young child will get a glimpse into some of the history, culture and present day, hopefully whetting their appetite to do more research.
