At first, I wasn't so sure...skimmimg the book, I wasn't wowed. Then, after some contemplation, I realized that I did enjoy it because the antagonist of Fashion Kitty/Kiki (Fashion Kitty is Kiki's superhero alter ego), Cassandra, aka "The Fashion Queen", is a bully, and my daughter (9) can relate to that. And, of course, Fashion Kitty and friends do best the bully. Which makes a bullied kid feels wonderful. Color is subtle pastels and grays, with dashes of cerulean blue and maize. Pics are not overwhelming. Included are four glossy pages which a kid can interact with. Pages can be cut across in three places. On these pages, Fashion Kitty is dressed in terrible outfits that Cassandra has deemed fit- on the other side, the pages contain Cassandra's evil ruminations on Fashion Kitty's, well, fashion sense. These pages can be intermixed after cutting to make Fashion Kitty's outfits even more horrible (eg.a chicken outfit can be combined with a diaper). The plot: Cassandra, the new student, is jealous of Kiki/Fashion Kitty's outfits, so she creates a campaign of terror involving only sporting gray hues with one smallish color accent. Some cats remain free thinkers. Some FK saves. Cassandra tries to entice FK to a showdown, but when she does not appear, Cass presents a book on fashion that FK "wrote". It has all of Cass' ideas on fashion (strange, huh?), and fellow cats dig it, thinking it's FK's word on fashion. Carol Anne saves the day with the truth. That's the basics- this book has pep with straightforward thinking. Good construction, too. My daughter requested this book for Xmas, and I am glad I got it for her. It is a good choice for a first graphic novel, whether bought or borrowed. Minus one star due to the price- one hour of delight cost me $8.99. My daughter reads at an average pace. Price should be cheaper for such a fast read (89 pages). Other than that- deep purrs.

My daughter loves this series. Wish there were more of them. I still prefer the real books to reading on an electronic device!

She was 8 when she read this, and was not a big reader. However, she devoured this one, and finished it in an afternoon. This Halloween she wants to dress up like Fashion Kitty!

I read this entire book to my daughter and I really hoped it would teach a lesson about sticking up for yourself but it had so many other flaws I couldn't ignore. The hero in the story often acts like a brat and repeatedly ignores her little sisters that begs her for attention. Then the parents make her feel better by making cookies rather than talking too her. Late in the book, when the school turns on the villain, no one has any sympathy for her. The book cut to her at her home where the other girls have reverse bullied her and the villain's father is verbally abusing her , again no sympathy. Then I was shocked at the wrap up when the villain returns to school as if nothing happened and is such a good actress at this she is made the lead in the school play. What? Denying her feelings is rewarded with a lead in a play? This is the worst thing you could tell a child. The entire book comes down to, don't talk about your feelings, but how you look is really important. The moral could have been that bullies often bully because their parents are bullies and that when we don't love ourselves, we don't show compassion for other people. And the girls should have offered the villain some support with her family not let her slip into some bizarre denial.

We recently picked up both of the "Fashion Kitty" books. I'm trying whatever I can to get my daughter to read more & have been thrilled that she has LOVED these :)
I think the fact that they have illustrations - yet plenty of reading is a good transition for her!

The book came in a promised condition and was delivered very fast! I will use this seller again.

We were so excited to learn of this second book, and a third in the series coming out in the summer. It's fun for the whole family - my 4th grader is a fan, and my 1st grader, the cat lover, is enthralled. The reading is pretty easy, and the humor will appeal to the whole family.
