Much like the Food Lover's Companion, this little book is full of information. Also like FLC, it's not exactly a "sit down and read through" book, but rather a reference. Lots of tips on how to select, store, prep, use all kinds of ingredients. Ranging from the common sense (wash the damn melons before cutting into them) to the obscure (a half dozen substitutes for arrowroot) to stuff cooks should probably have memorized by I have to look up Every.

This review is for the Kindle version. The book is arranged alphabetically by topic. The table of contents is the alphabet. There is no list of topics other than that, so you just have to randomly page through to see what the content is. There is a recipe index, but the index isn't linked to anything. In this format, the book is interesting for browsing, but not for easily finding anything.

To be honest, I wasn't really expecting to find so many tips that I haven't already read on Pinterest or other places, boy was I surprised!! I found so much more, and then some!!! Needless to say, I love this book and definitely recommend!!

All you ever need to know about food is here by my dearest, brilliant friend, Sharon Herbst. RIP. I use her books every chance I get for cooking, drinking or just learning something about either. I always learn something on every page.

I bought this book some time ago. I love it!!! This book rarely made it to the book shelf, it was always on the couch or the table. I was reading it constantly. I found all kinds of interesting facts. I have a couple of books in this catergory and this one is my favorite one! Being in Pamered Chef, it was awesome for show tips. People love leaving a show with with a cool fact or idea. It does more than just food, there is a section on glassware and kitchen cleaning and others. These are not one or two sentence tips, some have half pages, some have full pages, and some have pages! It is just awesome. You don't have to be a cook to use this I think anybody that uses the kitchen would like it.

An interesting book with basic and not-so-basic information. I find it useful about half the time when I flip through it for specific information. To be fair, it is a good referance book and I have learned a few things by reading it. This book would be a fantastic gift for a novice cook.

I cannot say enough good things about this book. Worth every single penny, and more!!! I use it every day. It has given me so many helpful hints and insight to food, food preparation, how to pick produce, how to store food... I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!!
This "tiptionary" is a treasure trove of helpful cooking and food-related information. I'm still left scratching my head after reading some of the tidbits . . . e.g., "dang, I had no idea; I never knew *that* . . ."
This may sound silly but consider putting one in the bathroom for "reference" while taking that pause. You'll be amazed at what new information you'll glean from this valuable reference. Oabtw, be sure to wash your hands when you leave the bathroom. [;}
