[VAMPIRELLA Master Series VOL. 7: PANTHA - Artwork by Mark Texeira - 2012 Dynamite Publications] Surprisingly, Vampi appears in just the first of these stories that center around Pantha, who first graced our weary world way back in 1974 in Vampirella # 30. Contemporized through hyper-sexualized artwork that would make a Cardinal swear off altar boys, she's got what it takes to make us momentarily forget Vampi's absence in the altogether, at least 'till she gets back from her hiatus in Draculon. 'Till then, Pantha will do nicely. O, brother, will she ever...

Mark Texiera's artwork is masterful and ornately painterly, and his brushstrokes relish the curves of the Goddess he's bringing to life for his readers, and writers Mark Millar, David Conway and Steve Grant, as well as John Smith and Dan Jolley all conjure tales that bewitch, bedevil and bejewel our readings with great flair, sarcasm, pop culture fixations and betraying badass babes you just might let send you to Hell in a weak moment, for better or worse. Heaven be damned. The stories are all top-tier; my fave's were "Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill!" (an homage to Russ Meyer) along with "Venus in Furs" (an homage to Jess Franco), though "Pantha", a tale regarding Nazi werewolves kept in suspended animation who are suddenly woken from a decades-long slumber and are hungry, cranky and eager to party for their Party ranks right up there with the remainder of these tales, insuring there's no down time in this reading room. Damn me now, and save me from the sainthood I had earlier requested...

Before the "Breasts and Blades" phenomenon thrust our way in the 90's with Brian Pulido's 'Lady Death', 'Purgatori', 'Chastity' and Chaos Comics other entries, along with 'Witchblade', 'Dawn', 'Darkchylde' and the sultry remainder of supernatural vixens, there was Vampirella (and Pantha to a lesser extent), the first and foremost in this pantheon of memorable paranormal succubae, and to this very day, holds a tight grip on my pulse for the perversely pulchritudinous pleasures in both this paltry life and the afterlife I trust will be more magnanimous than mundane. So, while Vampi's vacaying in Draculon, let's hear it for her sensual, substitute supernatural sister, Pantha, and let the rivers of blood wash over you and absolve you of life's ills... 4 ½ stars.

Okay, for Vampirella fans Pantha rocks, not only is she sexy she is bad a_ _ . You know what I mean. The art was exceptional, really, the story okay but this chick fights and manages to look hot while doing it. Welcome back creators and writers, because this one was a gold mine. You can't help but like her this Black Panther goddess is one I want to see a whole lot more of in the future and mixed with other characters as seen in the Vampirella, Red Sonja, Pantha graphic novel. That one was explosive and represented the traditional masterpieces that made these characters so adored by fans. This is up there with that and Witch Blade Red Sonja graphic novel. You need all three to truly enjoy what the writers seemed to have finally accomplished. There is hope for their future.
