After using the Irish Sacred Space meditations on line, this book, SACRED SPACE, The Prayer Book 2009, enables me to enter into Jesuit-centered prayerfulness at the same time each day. The Gospel scenario is presented, followed by thoughts that I can personalize for my day. I wish I had known about these books before this year.

Sacred Space, a hard copy, of the web site created by the Irish Jesuits is an invaluable prayer companion resources for daily meditation. I use book almost everyday and take it with me when I go on trip. The prayer methodology follows the traditions of the St. Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus. I would recommend it highly. R.W. Vancouver, Canada.

This is an excellent corollary to one's daily prayer practices. You get scripture with some insights into what the passage may hold for you in your spiritual relationship.
The title of this review comes from "Take Time" (p. vi), which includes: "Give your roots rain. / For in your roots you find who you are, / And there too find who God is."

The prayer website Sacred Space, begun in 1999, is well designed and used by many. Updated daily, its Ignatian focus of prayer flowing from Scripture has worldwide, multi-denominational appeal. The Sacred Space physical books, which appear annually, are a welcome extension of that website for an audience that wants or needs this approach in a format derived from trees rather than electrons. "Every place is a sacred space, so you may wish to have this book in your desk at work or available to be picked up and read at any time of the day... Remember that God is everywhere." (p. v)

Each week begins with a full page headed "Something to think and pray about each day this week"; July 26-August 1, for instance, is God's Pupil. A few verses of daily Scripture (usually following the Revised Common Lectionary) are followed by a couple of discernment starters, sometimes in the form of questions, often as brief statements. Although dated for the 2009 liturgical season, get yourself a bargain-priced copy--the content certainly didn't cease to meaningful in 2009.
