Maynard James Keenan (born James Herbert Keenan; April 17, 1964) is an American singer-songwriter. He is the lead singer and primary lyricist of the rock bands Tool and A Perfect Circle with whom he has released five and four studio albums, respectively. In 2003, he created Puscifer as a side project, with which he has released three studio albums. Originally from Ohio, Keenan spent his high school and college years in Michigan. He joined the United States Army after graduating high school.

During his recent book promo tour stop in Seattle, Maynard James Keenan talked about how a psychic played a role in the band's replacement of original bassist Paul D'Amour. Soundgarden guitarist Kim Thayil - who was the moderator for that night - reached the whole topic by saying : "We lost two bass players in Europe, our first two trips to Europe we came back a three-piece.

James Maynard’s most popular book is Groundwork: Before the War/In the Dark.

James Baldwin's "The Fire Next Time" is more a brilliant, masterfully constructed Supreme Court Opinion .

James Baldwin's "The Fire Next Time" is more a brilliant, masterfully constructed Supreme Court Opinion than it is a novel. And whereas I truly loved his analysis and opinions of the Negro problem in America, I still prefer his old fashion, novels with the numerous unforgettable characters, boundary breaking storylines, and sublime and poetic writing style. I wish I wish I wish I could have had the opportunity to meet this incredible man. The introductory letter from his uncle is proof that this beautifully gifting writing courses through the veins of the Baldwin family. I love this book (it is actually two shorter pieces quilted together and it's perfect).

He trained at Cliff College under the great Samuel Chadwick, and went on to become a leader in the Holiness Movement. Along with Jack Ford, Leonard Ravenhill, and Clifford Filer he established churches all over the British Isles. He was President of the Calvary Holiness Church, but when this denomination was merged with the larger Church of the Nazarene he was given a roving commission, having close ties with leaders in several denominations, including those in the pentecostal and charismatic movements. For nearly fifty years he was editor of the Flame magazine. This book covers many topics, and some of the thorny issues are tackled with courage and conviction."

The story of Maynard James: A Man on Fire is a concise look at the life of a man God, called to be an evangelist and prophet to the western world. I purchased this little book primarily because Maynard was a part of the trekking ministry sent out by Cliff College in the early 1930s. Maynard, along with Leonard Ravenhill and a few others, set out on foot to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the open spaces and public squares of England, with a passionate fervor which few men have ever displayed. While the book is only 184 pages long, it covers Maynard's life from his birth in 1902 to his death in 1988. He was a big proponent of the holiness movement with a focus on the experience of being filled with the Spirit and the doctrine of "Entire Sanctification." Overall, this book is a good read and very insightful regarding the times in which he lived.

A great book and a great man. Maynard James studied under the godly Samuel Chadwick and started churches with Leonard Ravenhill. He was an original thinker and could not be moved to abandon his convictions; even when it cost him a great deal. He and Ravenhill seem to be the last links to a fire baptized Methodism that shook Britain and America in its glory years. A very good read.
