Start by marking Critique of Modern Youth Ministry as Want to Read . A short book that’ll take maybe half an hour to get through (if that). But it’s very insightful into the misguided notions of what youth ministry should be (and how they came to be) in the modern American church.

Youth Ministry, also commonly referred to as youth group, is an age-specific religious ministry

Youth Ministry, also commonly referred to as youth group, is an age-specific religious ministry. Faith groups or other religious organizations carry out youth ministry to involve and engage with young people who attend their places of worship, or who live in their community. Christian youth ministry usually encompasses one or more of the following: encouraging young people (whether they have professed a faith or not) to learn more about a given faith and to become more involved in spiritual life.

Critique of Modern Youth Minis. by Christopher Schlect. The Church today does not expect what it ought to from children and their parents, and this can be attributed in large part to a flawed concept of youth ministry. This need not and should not be so. This essay, read by Aaron Wells, discusses the reasons behind the problem and proposes some biblical solutions.

Excellent Book for youth worker reference. By Joshua on 04-02-12. Sustainable Youth Ministry. Brief but striking, this audiobooklet by Dr. Chris Schlect traces the historical origins of present-day youth ministry and sifts through the people and ideas that contributed to its development. It also provides an honest, biblical starting place for discussing the nature and purpose of youth ministry.

This is an excellent book and, against what others have said, the conclusions are biblically supported. It is worth considering: as someone who has volunteered in youth ministry for many years, I have never known a person to become converted and stay converted apart from Godly parents.

This was a very good book. It was very informative. If you pay any attention to your youth in the church, you will see what he's talking about. I seen it before reading this book. Glad we bought it. Was well worth the money. Every Christian should have a copy of this.

Great biblical perspective.

This is a booklet, not a book. It is an essay that can be read in half an hour.

It is also a fresh perspective that all parents and youth workers should read with regard to their teens. His basic thesis is that youth groups are fulfilling e calls us to bring youth ministry back int he home and questions the legitamacy of youth groups merely existing.

I agreed with many points but felt that he made too many unfounded points, that his arguments were not grounded well in either reason or scripture. He would make valid, scriptural points about family and then preceed to call for the erradication of moder youth ministry. His view of youth culture is almost completely negative and he proposes that we should be radically counter cultural as the church by not having a youth culture. This is an idea that provokes good thought, but one which he does not, in my opinion, esablish well enough. Redeeming youth culture as opposed to running from it is a mission at the heart of many youth ministries. If the author wishes to discredit this approach, he should have gone deeper in scripture to do so.

This booklet is a booklet that shares our understanding as to the roles of the family and the church in the life of a child.

It is short (@22 pages), easy reading (@ 1/2hour), easy to understand, and provides the backdrop to his thesis, that only strengthens his point.

If you have been wondering about the role of your church regarding your child this will be of much service to you. If you already understand the function of the church, you will be happy to read such an articulate, easy reading booklet, that shares your views. If you are a major proponent of the modern "youth ministry," prepare to have your world rocked!

This book is a perfect book to have several copies of to continually hand them out.

I believe if we follow the model put forth in this booklet, we can stop the massive exodus of our youth and actually redeem our families, our church, and our nation once more.
