The technique for getting a model ship into a bottle is pretty straightforward. Construct the ship outside the bottle with collapsible masts and sails, insert the rig, erect the masts, secure it, cork it, and you're done. I've been collecting various books on the subject recently and enjoy how each author puts their unique twist on the technique. Joop Van Schouten has done an excellent job covering the topic.
