He has published extensively on 19th and early-20th century French art including the book Untamed: the Art of Antoine-Louis Barye (2006), and essays in the exhibition catalogues Renoir Landscapes: 1865-1883 (2007); In the Forest of Fontainebleau: Painters and Photographers from Corot to Monet (2008); Manet, the Man who Invented Modern Art (2011. ; and Becoming Van Gogh (2012). Kelly worked previously at the Metropolitan Museum of Art; the Walters Art Museum, Baltimore; and The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City.

Antoine-Louis Barye - Rehs Galleries' biography on the artist. Barye had a son, Alfred Barye, who studied under him and also became an animalier sculptor. Alfred, although very competent in his own right as a sculptor, would struggle to gain notoriety working in the shadow of his more famous father. Antoine-Louis was not pleased when his son began signing work as "A. Barye" because he thought this created confusion between his work and that of his son.

This is a great work on this artist/sculptor. Well written, with many line and full color illustrations. Includes photographs of comparable work of the genre. A complete book, if you want a fine study of this artist, buy this! I bought my copy used in excellent condition, it was a great bargain! Study the condition sections of the used book seller as you consider this title. I am very satisfied with my copy.
