Coosje van Bruggen, a critic, art historian and artist known for the colorful public sculptures she created around the world .

Coosje van Bruggen, a critic, art historian and artist known for the colorful public sculptures she created around the world with her husband, the Pop artist Claes Oldenburg, died on Saturday in Los Angeles. She was 66 and had homes in New York and Beaumont-sur-Dême in the Loire Valley, France. The cause was metastatic breast cancer, said Andrea Glimcher, director of communications at PaceWildenstein, which has represented Ms. van Bruggen since 1990. Although their projects often engendered controversy, Ms. van Bruggen always adopted a matter-of-fact approach to persuading civic governments and mayors to embrace them.

Minneapolis Sculpture Garden The centerpiece of the garden is the Spoonbridge and Cherry water sculpture designed by husband and wife Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen. This amazing sculpture constructed in a ship-building yard. Placed in the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, the weight of the spoon and cherry are 5800 and 1200 pounds.

These contemporary American artists have produced a series of monumental public sculptures for sites throughout America and Europe, among them the controversial "Lipstick (Ascending) on Caterpillar Tracks" at Yale University, "Batcolumn" in Chicago and the "Mistos (Match cover)" in Barcelona. This book details the individual histories of 27 sculptures, presenting the artists' personal viewpoints on them, together with a range of contemporary essays and observations made at the time the works were created. Interwoven into the case histories are original notes and sketches, working drawings, models and engineering plans. Each work is illustrated with colour photographs and numerous documentary photographs from the project's development.
